Our Story

Nine Ladies Productions is an award-winning, Derbyshire-based production company built on a belief in story-first filmmaking. Founded by filmmaker Stuart Wheeldon, the company was created to develop and produce films and audio projects that take time, value atmosphere, and give space to voices and stories that might otherwise be overlooked.

Our work spans feature and short films, documentaries, heritage projects, corporate films, and podcasts, with a consistent focus on authenticity, research, and strong creative intent. We are drawn to stories rooted in place, memory, and lived experience, often working closely with archives, communities, and collaborators to ensure each project feels grounded and truthful.

Whether producing narrative cinema or commissioned work, we approach every project with the same care and attention to detail — from early development and research through to filming, post-production, and delivery. This ethos allows us to create work that is both creatively distinctive and professionally reliable.

We are currently in production on our second feature film, The Search for Gillian Gold, continuing our commitment to original, thoughtful independent filmmaking.

We produce short and feature films from development through to final delivery, with a strong focus on director-led storytelling, atmosphere, and character. Our work has screened at festivals and continues to explore distinctive, original narratives. We are currently in production on our second feature film, The Search for Gillian Gold.
